The Perfume Shop asks…“One squirt or two?”

Perfume is the perfect accessory to complete any outfit or compliment your style but it seems the scent you wear and the way you wear it can say more about you that you think!

The Perfume Shop asks…“One squirt or two?”

Celebrity Status:

Who wouldn’t want to smell like their favourite celeb? With a number of new famous faces, including Justin Bieber, Rihanna and Beyoncé launching fragrances, A-list scents are definite winners! 42% of people surveyed stated they would buy a celebrity endorsed fragrance. Interestingly, it appears the North are big into their celebs as 78% of people were willing to buy a celebrity scent they liked the smell of, even if they didn’t particularly like the celeb endorsing it!

Size Matters!:

A poll of 3,000 men and women surveyed by The Perfume Shop revealed that men in the West Midlands smell the sweetest, choosing to spray their signature scent every day, whilst guys from the South West prefer to keep it au naturel, admitting to only spritzing on special occasions! Who says size doesn’t matter? Nearly 30% of girls said a 50ml bottle of perfume lasted them between four to six months while it seems it’s the girls who squirt more than the boys too! Over a quarter of girls admitted to three squirts of their favourite spritz compared to just a third of all boys only using two squirts every time they spray!

Unusual Places:

The Perfume Shop suggests spraying your key pulse points such as your neck, elbows and knees for maximum impact, which only a mere 2% of 35-44 years old seem to be following! A staggering 78% of people sprayed their neck, with women three times more likely to spray their wrists than men. It seems the North is the sauciest and spray the tops of their thighs when wearing a dress or short skirt, with ladies from Leeds coming out top with 7%, cheeky!

Perfume Wardrobes:

Perfume wardrobes are a hit with just under 65% of people in the North East owning three or more scents! Interestingly, well over half of all people surveyed buy a new scent before finishing an old bottle, so it’s no surprise 58% use different fragrances for different occasions, with a staggering 60% of 16-24 year olds having a specific scent they save for a night out on the pull. Northern Ireland came top for romance with over a quarter of people choosing a specific scent to go on a date, while over 80% of folks in Yorkshire won’t wear certain perfumes because it reminds them of an ex!

Setting the mood:

If you are feeling a bit down or it’s just been one of those weeks at work, perfumes and aftershaves will make you smile, with over a third of people

surveyed admitting to buying a new perfume or aftershave to cheer them up! Typically blokes will spend £26 to £30 on fragrances for themselves or a partner with Scotland coming in as the biggest spenders. However, most people would spend a staggering £10 less on a parent than on a friend or partner!

National Advertising and PR Manager for The Perfume Shop, Michelle D’Vaz says, “It’s interesting to discover customers shopping habits and see exactly how our shoppers feel about buying perfume, where they like to buy them from and how often. It’s fantastic to be able to see the facts and figures, including statistics such as 50% of all people surveyed buy their fragrances from the high street and specialist stores like The Perfume Shop!”
