Kelly turns honeymoon redundancy to wedding business triumph

It was when Kelly started to plan her own wedding on Ibiza in June 2009, she realized that wedding planning could be the career for her. Fortunately, she had an extensive background in events, working on a voluntary basis with charities like Oxfam and the Trade Justice movement. With this experience and her ongoing obsession with everything wedding related, she was considering her options when fate took a hand. Kelly remembers the last day of her honeymoon very well- it was the start of this new career. “I picked up a call on my mobile which changed my life. My boss rang to make me redundant from my job in fashion recruitment out of the blue. I was gutted of course, but like many others have experienced in this recession, it was just the push I needed.”

Kelly talked her options over with new husband Nik, and they decided she would give self employment her best shot. “I accessed all the help I could”, remembers Kelly. I was put in touch with local creative support consultancy Inspiral, who were really helpful. They matched me with a mentor, Faye Smith of Keep your Fork marketing and we hit it off straight away. With Faye’s practical support and encouragement, I found myself on radio and in the press talking about everything from the gay wedding I had just planned at Sheffield Pride festival between two dear friends of mine, to Ibizan destination weddings and now of course the Royal wedding.”

“I am also a manic blogger! I just love social media. Faye put me in touch with Christina Trindade, a women’s specialist business advisor at the Enterprise Agency, and before I knew it I was training sixty new start female entrepreneurs on how to make the most of social media opportunities alongside Faye and former Apprentice runner up Jo Cameron. It was a fantastic, inspiring day with some great feedback.”Already, Kelly has a number of weddings she is planning for next year around the region from Cheshire to Ibiza.  “I don’t know if they have been spurred on by the Royal Wedding announcements of Kate Middleton and Prince William, but there has certainly been more than I expected. I’m delighted of course!” smiles Kelly.

“I mainly work in Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Cheshire,  “but of course I’ll plan a wedding anywhere the happy couple desire! My own wedding was in Ibiza my favorite place in the world; it was spiritual, simple chilled out and to me was perfect. I want everyone to experience the fantastic day that I had- adding your own twist to your wedding day really does make it more special, more memorable and more about you as a couple. To find out more about Boho wedding and event services, contact Kelly on 07989 431821 / 01142854532 , email kelly@bohoweddingsandevents.com or through her website www.bohoweddingsandevents.com
