In November 2010 I travelled to Casablanca, Morocco to take part in the 1st International Souk forum of Investment conference organised by the Arab Women Investors Union to give a talk on the Human Development of women globally based on the latest report by the Economist. It was an honour to meet with many women representatives and government officials from all over the world who are interested in developing women.
As a result we are seeing progress. Just over a million women are now self-employed and this number has increased by around 10% over the last four years. However we know that women's enterprise in the UK is much lower than in some other countries, such as the US. Developing women's enterprise, encouraging that wealth-creating potential, is important for our economy. At the moment, women-owned businesses contribute about £60 billion to the UK economy about 25% of the UK total, mainly from the growing service sector. Worldwide the figures are startling and are constantly ongoing.
I listened intently to talks given from all corners of the globe and one thing is clear, the world we live in is now and we can work and trade in real time, opportunities for women now supported by technology are helping close the gap and make it easier for us all to work together. There is much work to be done and at Working Woman we look forward to helping women worldwide. As a result of this outstanding conference that was a complete 1st , a new International Network will be launched shortly, watch this space.....
